What everyone knows

Most people know you can order a variety of protein-based burgers (beef, turkey, chicken, lamb, bison, tuna, and black bean) on a homemade bun, and wash it down with a craft beer.

What they don't tell you

Hopdoddy is the oddly named Austin-born burger chain that was launched in 2010 by four friends. It gets it unique name from the term “hop” which is the flower that gives beer its aromatic bitterness, and “doddy” which is a nickname for a Scottish herd of cattle.

Do it like a local

If you like a little spice to your meal, get the “El Diablo” - Angus Beef, Pepper Jack, Habaneros & Serranos, Caramelized Onions, Salsa Roja, Chipotle Aioli, Lettuce, Tomato...You don’t eat meat? No problem! Try the “Impossible” burger - made entirely of plants, Cheddar, Sassy Sauce, Lettuce, Tomato, White Onion... OR Make it Vegan with Vegenaise and Vegan Smoked Gouda on Whole Wheat.

For the History Buffs

Hopdoddy restaurants are not franchised, rather they are company-owned. Their flagship location is on S. Congress Ave. According to founding partner Guy Villavaso, their goal was to create “an adult place to get a burger.” He noted that 80% of tables have bar stools and liquor sales account for 17% of revenue, higher than at most burger joints. Which is why you will find a bar as the center of activity when you walk in. Their concept is counter service, thus generating a line that guests wait on providing an opportunity for the bartender to engage a guest and put a beer in their hand.
