What they don't tell you
Formerly, Thinkery was known as the Austin Children’s Museum on W. 5th St. in downtown’s West Austin neighborhood, beginning in 1987. Then moving into the heart of downtown in the Warehouse District on 2nd St., ten years later. Austin kept growing and in 2013 it became Thinkery, and moved to the Mueller Community (the site of Austin’s previous international airport).
Do it like a local
Plan your next trip to Thinkery, and take part in the numerous exciting & educational hands-on activities while engaging with your child(ren).
For the History Buffs
The focus at Thinkery is on science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) and has interactive experiences designed to engage learners of all ages. As a former elementary school teacher of 25 years, I am excited to see such a creative community with a passion for lifelong learning and discovery. In order to be more successful in the near future, our students need innovative learning experiences that equip and inspire them to creative problem solvers, and Thinkery is just that!
Children learn best when their home, school, and the local community are interconnected and support each other.
Thinkery’s exhibits and programs encourage children to solve creative challenges, explore a variety of materials, and to develop new ways to complete unfamiliar projects. It is through these activities that children gain the tools and confidence needed to develop and grow into enthusiastic, creative, lifelong learners and thinkers.
Amazingly, Thinkery has numerous programs for infants, toddlers, elementary students, teenagers, parents, and educators. They even have special events that are constantly updated as well as fun STEAM projects to do at home!
